Swift Response Nets Bank Robber
Case No. 11-14566

SUMMARY: Eugene Police arrest William Cody Grimes, 34, within 21 minutes of a robbery at Bank of America, 201 E 11th Avenue

Eugene Police responded to a robbery today at 12:06 p.m. at the Bank of America branch located at 201 E 11th Avenue.  A single white, male suspect entered the bank approached the teller and presented a note, then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and began to search for the involved suspect.

Thanks to quick and tactical coordination between EPD and partnering agencies including the Lane County Sheriff's Office, and Lane Transit District, Officers Tim Haywood and Jud Warden located the suspect who had boarded a nearby EMX bus.  At 12:27 p.m. William Cody Grimes, 34-year-old, was taken into custody and will be lodged at the Lane County Jail on Federal Charges.

  1. It isn't a secret that the criminal element thrives wherever there is mass transit. Every time I ride the EmX there's mostly shady looking characters, and I have even heard people talking on their cellphone about buying "a gram" etc. Trust me West Eugene, you don't want to make it that much easier for these people to get out there and break into your homes and cars.

  2. Well we know that EmX bus wasn't empty. There was a bank robber on it.
Hard to blend in with the crowd when there isn't one.

  3. Ummmm, since you are not a news outlet, it is curious how you obtained this e-mail. Who was it sent to? Also the way you have posted it under the title "FINALLY..." makes it look as if the Police Dept. is poking fun at EmX. Don't think she would really appreciate that. You might want to think about clarifying that.

  4. That is a very good point. Being the "FINALLY,,," is the title of that blog post I didn't think how it might appear to others. We did not mean to in anyway try to make people think that was part of the original email. I will be fixing that problem.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention Anonymous August 30, 2011 5:29 PM.

  5. Speaking for west eugene... i would like to say at least my area of habitation, it would just bring more undesirables. 2 blocks from here there are multiple bums camping. They sit in front or side of dari mart. You can't walk down the bike trail without watching a deal or getting an offer to sell. Maybe the city of eugene could turn the emx into apartments for the homeless.

  6. your ignorance is showing. where there is more mass transit there is actually less crime. wherever there are more people out and about, more lively neighborhoods, less crime, don't stereotype bus riders. we are all income levels, all shapes and sizes. I have met great folks on the bus.
