The EmX Bus....It's Empty!

The EmX Bus....It's Empty! (A repost from the LCCRG blog)

Last week, LCCRG spent a few hours on a Friday morning checking out the new Gateway/River Bend EmX line to see how well our $43 million dollar investment is working out. We filmed some footage of the morning commute during what is typically known as "rush hour" and continued up to about noon. Here is the video for your enjoyment, it's only a minute or so long, and has a fun musical score!

  1. Oh Dear LTD. This video should have been made months ago. I will post this video to everyone I know, on every message board, every place I can. Wonder why the U.S. of A. is out of money? Because greedy cities, and government organizations take the "free money" federal funds like LTD has and squander them on projects that either do not need to be done, or in cities they do not fit in. Time for we the people to take back out rights. Government works FOR us, not the other way around. We need responsible transit in our area. Take this to a vote of the people, it is our city, it is our transit, it is our money.

  2. With LTDs logic we should therefore build an airport the size of LAX right here in Eugene Oregon. Ironically we don't even have bus service to the little airport we do have, but that's another story.

Sorry same problems. Offering is not the same as using. This city will not be the correct size for a BRT bus system in 20 years, much less now. The population, and density of this area will not support this type of public transit system. Not today, not in 20 years. When the price of fuel goes up for us, the price of fuel goes up for LTD. Thus raising their cost of service, a cost they can't afford now much less later. When the price of fuel hits higher prices do you seriously think it wont affect businesses? There will be less business, less need for the bus as the vast majority ride the bus to and from work, then school here. Do you think with less money, and less jobs there will be more college students?

Think about Monaco that just kicked 450 people to the curb, will they now be riding the bus more? Nope. It is not a simple plan, it is not a well thought through one either. LTD can not keep their regular bus lines, and services up and running. Do you think the strain of yet another under-utilized BRT/EmX line is going to make that better somehow? Nope.

You can bring a horse to water, but you can not make him drink. Should be

the motto here. Not If you build it they will ride it. The later is not working.

Empty buses cost more to run, and cause more pollution per a rider mile than full buses.

  3. I’ve read comments on Facebook from people saying that instead of sending the EmX out to the W.11th Walmart area that it should go to replace the #11 Thurston route since it runs every 10 mins for most of the day {see http://www.ltd.org/viewroute.html?routeid=1378&submit=Go}. I’ve also ridden on the routes to and from this Walmart and from what I’ve seen there are only a few peak hours where the bus is full enough that people are packed in pretty tight so why not just add a few extra runs during those times just like they did for the 66 route to cover for when they took away the breeze?
Oh, wait…they just took routes away from that area due to lack of riders so how is it possible to have enough riders to justify an EmX out that way when there weren’t enough riders for these other routes? Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron to me…
