Eugene resident captures photo of LTD bus going wrong way down street

Today, at around 1:30 p.m., Eugene resident Jefferey Egbert captured this photo of an LTD bus going the wrong way on Lincoln Street.

According to Egbert, the photo, which has been published on the Dear LTDFacebook page, depicts the 51 bus stopped at the light on 6th Street after going the wrong way.
“This incident was caused by human error,” said Cosette Rees, public relations specialist for LTD. “The operator is a veteran operator with a record of safe driving. He was driving an inbound 51 Santa Clara and turned south on Lincoln instead of Charnelton. He realized his mistake and, exercising great caution, continued to the next safe opportunity to correct the mistake. When he reached Eugene Station he called our Operations Dispatch and reported the incident.”
Rees said there will be an investigation, which can take 2-3 days, into why the incident occurred and “if warranted, there will be discipline.”
MyEugene has also learned that just this morning Rees met informally with Eugene resident, Mike Weber, administrator of the Dear LTD Facebook page and operator of multiple other Facebook pages that are critical of LTD.
During the meeting Rees also delivered a message from her office informing Weber that LTD considered the Dear LTD page to be a violation ofFacebook policy.
Weber disagrees: “It’s a community page for sharing information about LTD.”
The two did agree that the Facebook page name should be modified to make it clear that the page was not an “official” Lane Transit District page.

  1. We would just like to mention that Jeffery's name is misspelled in this article.

Dear LTD would like to again thank Jeffery for posting his photo to our Facebook page!!

  2. It is so sad the a group of people has set out to damage LTD's reputation. They are an amazing group of people working hard to provide a much-needed public service. Are they perfect? No. But trying so hard. It is just a shame that people spend so much energy trying to tear down something good rather than build up something and make positive change.

  3. LTD are the only people damaging their reputation. No one made the bus run a red, no one here jammed a LTD bus against a hydrant, no one here made that bus drive the wrong way down a one way street. This blog, and their Facebook are for sharing your experiences good or bad. Maybe you should share a good experience you have had with the public transit system instead of attacking people who report what is going on in our community. What are your positive changes? Trying to deflect LTD's mistakes on a group of people just reporting it, not causing it? LTD is out of control, LTD is trying to stifle free speech. Yet you blame these people for LTD's mistakes? You just blackened your own eye with your comments. These people are trying to keep LTD publicly accountable for THEIR actions, action I would add the people who started this blog did NOT create. I want LTD accountable, I do not want these mistakes cleverly swept under the rug. Kudos to Dear LTD. Thank goodness someone has stepped up and is holding government accountable.

  4. Hello…
The intent has never been to damage LTD’s reputation; this whole thing got started due to the frustration of the community stemming from LTD closing their Facebook page to outside posts. It was perceived as being told “We will only talk to you if it is a private conversation.” Many have taken that to mean that it is to make it easier to sweep any problems under the rug. Many have had bad experiences with LTD’s customer service when they were contacted and after being treated the same way several times have thrown their hands up in frustration/anger and that LTD doesn’t care about its’ customers.
The page has clearly stated several times throughout the month that it has been on Facebook that people should contact LTD with any concerns, compliments, etc. and then share those responses with the rest of the people on the facebook page. The page even went further by changing the name so that “not affiliated with LTD” was in the name to make sure it was very clear there was no connection between the two pages. LTD themselves have posted on the page with their disclaimer {which was then summarized in a post by the admin so that everyone who had “liked” the page could be reminded} that the page was not affiliated with them.
Most of the people on that page aren’t putting all their energy into tearing anything down. They post to share their experiences and to feel like they are being heard and that they & their opinions matter to others. It is also, for some, a way of showing hope that they can help make the transit system better and a better experience for everyone who uses it.
You are right, a lot of the employees are hard working and have a wonderful attitude towards customers and people are welcome to post their “shout-outs” on the page as well {I know for a fact one of the admins has}. There have been several posts about tight {and possibly unrealistic} scheduling. Maybe if they gave the drivers a little more breathing room as far as their schedules are concerned all these incidents that have been publicized recently won’t be a problem in the future.....
